This beauty by Mitsubishi is available in four models as RS, GS, GT and GTS. These models are provided with 14 in line cylinder type engine for first two and V6 engines for the last two models. Engine block is made up of cast iron and cylinder head is made up of aluminum. Displacement in (liters) is 2.4 for RS & GS models and 3.0 for GT & GTS models. Eclipse RS and GS models have 147 hp at 5500 rpm, where as GT and GTS variants have it as 200 hp at 5500 and 210 hp at 5750 rpm as SAE net. Torque is generated as 158 @ 4000 (lb.-ft.@ rpm), for the first two variants while for the third and fourth one it is 205 @ 4000 and 205 @ 3750 respectively.

Redline rpm is 6000 for the first two and 6200 for the last two models. Bore and stroke in (mm) is 86.5 x 100.00 for RS & GS whereas 91.1 x 76.0 for GT and GTS. Compression Ratio has been maintained at 9.0:1 for the first three and 10.0:1 for GTS. Valve train has 16-valve SOHC as standard for first two models and 24-valve SOHC for the last two models. All the models come with multi-port fuel injection and electronic ignition system with antitheft engine immobilizer. All the models are front wheel drive with stainless steel exhaust system and 90 and 85 Amps alternators for the two major bifurcation. 4-speed automatic transmission with adaptive shift control is standard for RS model. 5-speed manual transmission is available for all models. Sportronic� 4-speed automatic transmission with adaptive shift control and clutchless manual shift mode is standard for all except RS model.

Unibody construction is standard for all. Front independent suspension with MacPherson Struts w/ coil springs is standard with independent Multi-link rear suspension with coil springs. Stabilizer bar has standard figure of (mm.,front/rear) as 16.0/19.0. for GT and GTS models. Variable power-assist rack-and-pinion steering is provided, with steering ratio as 17.0:1 (RS & GS) and 17.4 : 1 (GT & GTS). Curb-to-Curb turning diameter in ft. is 35.4. Power-assist ventilated front and rear drum brakes (in., front/rear) 10.9/9.0 is standard for RS & GS. Power-assist ventilated front disc and rear disc brakes of in. 10.9/10.3 are standard for GT and GTS. Antilock braking system (ABS) with electronic brakeforce distribution (EBD) has been provided only to the GTS model. Wheels are 15 x 6 five spoke alloy for RS, 16 x 6 five spoke alloy for GS, 17 x 6.5 five spoke alloy for GT and 17 x 65 five spoke polished alloy for GTS. Standard all-season tires are P215/50 VR17 for GT and GTS while being P195/65 HR15 for RS and P 205/55 HR16 for GS model.
