2013 Mercury Sable Review Pictures
The 2013
Mercury Sable is available as a sedan or station wagon and can be
ordered in GS or LS Premium trim levels. Six-passenger seating comes
standard on the GS; it's a no-cost option on the LS Premium, which
otherwise has front bucket seats and a floor-mounted shifter. It comes
with air conditioning, a cassette stereo, cruise control and power
mirrors, windows and locks. Options include a power driver seat and
alloy wheels. The highline cars gets automatic headlights, foglamps,
automatic climate control, power-adjustable pedals and an auto-dimming
rearview mirror as standard equipment. Options like a CD changer,
power front-passenger seat, leather upholstery and a sunroof are only
available .Engine choices include a 3.0-liter Vulcan V6 and a 3.0-liter
Duratec V6. The main difference between the two is the cylinder heads;
the base Vulcan has two valves per cylinder, while the Duratec has
four.
This greatly affects output and performance, as the base engine manages
just 155 horsepower, while the heartier Duratec puts out 200 hp. Regardless
of engine choice, the Sable comes standard with a four-speed automatic.
Fuel estimates for both engines are 20 mpg in the city and 27-28 mpg
on the highway. The 2013 Mercury Sable has earned a good reputation
for safety, thanks to its solid performances in crash testing. Both
the sedan and wagon earned a five-star rating for frontal crash testing
and three stars for side impacts. This system adapts airbag deployment
depending upon impact severity, safety-belt usage and driver-seat
position. Side airbags for front occupants are optional on all models,
as are ABS and traction control. Oddly, you can only get four-wheel
disc brakes on wagons; sedans have rear drum brakes.
In general, audio and climate controls are grouped logically and are
easy to use, though the automatic climate controls in the LS Premium
require drivers to negotiate many small buttons. The 2013 Mercury
Sable has a stowable third-row reverse-facing seat. When it's deployed
& can carry two additional children. Offer 38.8 cubic feet behind
the second-row seat; fold that down and the capacity jumps to 81 cubic
feet. It is a respectable performer when it comes to ride, handling
and acceleration. The 200-hp V6 is, of course, the more desirable
power plant for those who have the need for speed. The engine features
a wide power band with plenty of low-end torque. When it reaches the
upper end of the tachometer, however, the engine isn't nearly as smooth
as some other V6s in this class. The suspension is compliant, making
for a comfortable ride and easy long-distance drives, but braking
and handling are not up to the level of the top-tier family sedans
and wagons in this segment.
